I have a 1986 Tashiba with the keyhole style sink. I needed more access to the area under the sink and installed a new door on the passageway side of the sink, (see photo #1). Under that side I have the 3 filters for the water maker, the sink freshwater filter, the fresh water expansion tank, the water maker controls, a 40 inch water maker membrane and a holding sump with a macerator pump for discharge. I was inspired by a similar instillation on Play Actor, a Tashiba 31. As many know, the sink drains are only marginally above the waterline and tend to collect grease and smelly stuff. Some boats even share the shower drain and sink thru hull. I built a 4 gallon fiberglass tank the same shape as the ‘breadbox’ to which I connected the sink drain and shower drain. I installed a Jabsco Macerator pump and a 1 inch vented loop which connects to the old thru hull. I have a pushbutton at the galley and it takes 15-20 sec. to drain the box. My wife is ecstatic – no smell, water backing up or shower contamination. (see the pictures). I can still lay on my back and reach the faucets for servicing. Email me if you would like details.
