Please feel free to send it on to other Panda-38 owners, if you wish. Because of heavy traveling and the holidays, I am a bit behind with answering all my e-mail that has recently come through. I have spent considerable time to find this material and scan it for Brandy, soooo attached are the bear essentials. Even though most of our “sold boat” records were shredded around 1992 when I got into real estate here in the Northwest, I was able to dig up the following: Our records show that there were at least 29 of the Panda-38’s built. They were all built by Ta-Shing, the best yard in Taiwan. I owned the design and the tooling for the project. I decided to come out with a boat with a different stern design because I felt that not every sailor wanted a “double-ender” like all of the double enders that I have been connected with. The majority of the Panda-38’s were sold in the Pacific Northwest and the others were sold by dealers that I appointed who sold Ta-Shing boats around the United States. I had the first Panda-38 which my wife Arline and I called “White Bear”, the Chinese name for the Panda bear (please bear with me … you have to grin and bear it!). We contracted for the design in October, 1981 and probably shipped the first boat sometime around the latter part of 1982. I don’t have any records left which show when the last boat shipped. I hope that the attached will be of some assistance to Brandy. Would you be willing to assist her? Or to refer her to someone who can help? Anything we can do to help spread the word about our fine boats helps us all. Thanks for your assistance. -Bruce Pappas -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: restlessp38@aol.com [mailto:restlessp38@aol.com] Sent: Monday, January 07, 2008 6:15 PM To: bcp@pappalini.com Subject: Baba-Panda Group Member Requests Your Help Hi Bruce, My husband and I own Restless, hull #3 of the Panda 38 series (1983). We are members of the Baba-Panda-Toshiba web site which is where we got your email address. I am working on a review of the Panda 38 for Cruising World’s monthly segment called Classic Plastic and am trying to obtain some specific information about the P38 series (like dates produced, total number built, any significant voyages, etc.). I realize I could put this question to the Group and would likely get lots of information, but I was hoping to have some dialog with Bob Berg and/or Tim Ellis. To that end, I emailed both of them directly a week or so before the holidays but haven’t heard anything back. I don’t know if I ended up in their SPAM folders or if for some reason, they are not interested in talking about the P38. I know from reading through the various threads on the Group Page, that you have some contact with them and seem to be great at getting info onto the site. I’m hoping you can help me get in contact with either or both of them or offer some advice on how to approach obtaining the specifics I need for this review for CW. Thank you in advance for your assistance.
