Ross Hubbard maritimesurveyors@gmail.com Sun, May 31, 3:17 PM to Baba-L@Google Thought I'd post images of my long term bowsprit project that is nearly finished. The old bowsprit was really bad, typical spruce laminations rotted and termite ridden. So a new one was built from FEQ Teak. It was then coated with saturating epoxy and three coats of West System Epoxy (Slow Cure). Second coat of epoxy we set in a layer of 6-ounce e-glass cut on the bias to easily wrap around corners. The third coat was flow coated. It was left to cure for a few weeks and then sanded. After getting it sanded, 10 coats of Awlgrip clear LPU was sprayed on it. While waiting for it to cure, etc. I had the end cap and star chrome plated at Van Nuys Plating (nice folks, great work). The stainless steel cranze iron was polished and installed on the sprit - the wood was wrapped many times with glass for abrasion and compression (commonplace for failures and water intrusion). The holes for the inner stay tang have been drilled and the tang polished. All stainless steel and chrome on the bowsprit as well as all stanchions, pulpits, guards have been coated with Nyalic (really great stuff. Long project that has turned out great, it's too bad that the platform above the bowsprit will hide most of it but it will protect it from UV and abrasion. So, if you have a bowsprit that needs to be replaced it's not a really tough job, just one that takes time and patience. Happy to answer any questions, give some advice or encouragement.
